Sarasota Area Schools

Sarasota County is designated as an “A” District by the Florida Department of Education, with 95 percent of elementary schools and 83 percent of all schools receiving “A” grades in 2008.  The district is the largest employer inSarasota County. It has one of the lowest ratios of administrators to staff in Florida.  It is among 15 percent of U.S. districts to receive the “What Parents Want” award.  NeXt Generation Learning, the district’s strategic plan, engages today’s students in interactive instruction to effectively prepare them for the future.

Sarasota is also home to one of the only full-time gifted public schools in the United States.  Ranked the 6th Top High School in the U.S. - Pineview excels in quality education!

History: Pine View School, established in 1969, is Sarasota County's public school for intellectually gifted students. As a public school, Pine View is open to students throughout Sarasota County. Pine View offers classes in grades 2 through 12.

Pine View is a special program designed to meet the unique needs of intellectually gifted students in grades two through twelve on a broad-based campus.


Students may be referred to Pine View by administrators, teachers, staff members or parents. Inquiries should be directed to the student's current school, as interviews and testing continue throughout the year. Children are admitted based on a series of tests, recommendations and other pertinent data as required by the State Department of Education. These are reviewed by a committee of teachers and other personnel.
